Dust to Dust

A man of God came home one day to find his house broken into.  His neighbor came to him and asked, “Have they stolen much from you?”

The man of God looked at his neighbor for a moment.  Then gave a knowing smile.  He went to his knees and began to pray,

“Holy Father, you are the Living God.  All things are yours to do with as you see fit.  By Jesus’ great sacrifice you promise your people eternal life.  And thanks is mine.  I give you what is mine to give.

Dust to dust.  Let the dust come and take what is its own.  How shall I complain if the dust I had has returned to a people of dust.  There is no sin in this thing which has come to visit me.

I belong to you.”

Having prayed that prayer the man of God simply turned and walked away.  His neighbors came and took what pleased them.  They never saw him again.

Let those who are of dust have what rightly belongs to them.  You, my brothers and sisters, have endless wealth in that eternal place.  With faith and patience we inherit the Promise.
