Work

They go to Church.  They read their Bible.  They give to the poor.  They have prayed some kind of prayer.  They might even have spoken openly about the Holy Son of God.  Have they done the will of God?

If they read these words, the answer must remain, “no”.  For the will of the Living God is a Living Will.  And if they can still read these words, then they are still in the place of “Working”.  The work of God has no place of completion.  It is a continual doing.

Is this splitting hairs?  Absolutely not.  When Jesus spoke, “It is finished”, He did not consider Himself to have completed the Living Will of His Holy Father.  He perceived that the most severe possible test of his continuance was completed.  But men hold their deeds as if they are completions in themselves.

“My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” (John 5:17)  There is a place of rest.  But even in that place there is a sustaining.

What’s the point of this post?  Don’t consider that your work for Him will ever find an “end”.  Take a vacation from the “work of men”.  But don’t consider that you can do the same from the “Work of God”.

Solace in the Offending

I find great solace in the following:

If, in the words that proclaim the Holy One of God, I offend three hundred people.  If these people leave this place of proclamation, there is no loss.  For there are three hundred million yet to hear.

And if, in the end, I have offended three hundred million, I have done no harm.  For such men would be offended even if the Holy One Himself appeared among them.

Good Deeds Only?

Plenty of good deeds being done.  But shall we thank those who do them?  Shall they be marked as great men of God?  Will their deeds receive accolades in the Great and Holy assembly?  That glorious place where only the name of Christ Jesus is lifted high.

Many perform their Christianity in the doing of good deeds.  How are they different than those who hate the Lord?

It is comfortable and enticing to do the good things men expect.  All the while we let fear subject the name of Christ to obscurity.  Yet these “good doers” think they offer God a favor.  They think they honor his Holy name.

Do your good deeds.  But do not neglect the proclamation which must accompany them.  As your fingers work diligently for your fellow man, let your tongue work fearlessly in tandem!  Put down your fear and proclaim the name of Jesus Christ as the strength for all you do.

As the one who proclaims without love in his heart, so is the one who does good deeds without giving blatant glory to the One for whom, and by whom, they are done.

If you do this two things will happen.  The world will despise you regardless the good things you do.  And the Holy One will bless you that you might be fruitful in all his Holy Way.

Heaven Bent

Oh precious gems,

These doubts of men:

The gates twix

Death and healing.

How gladly we

Protect the locks.

His purpose

Deftly stealing.

Would you believe?

Then grab the keys.

Throwback the gates!

The Holy One waits!

Render him your life.

And don’t just say,

As everyday;

As if a dream you dreamt.

But do the deed;

Become the man!

Whose soul is:

Heaven bent

By His Grace
