Beggars, We Are All

“Can you spare a dime.”

Why the man stopped to reply, only God knows.

“I’ve worked hard for what I have.”

The reply was filled with wisdom.

“So you think begging is easy. The only time you deal with shame is when you leave $500 on the table after the deal. Everybody works hard for what they have.”

The man didn’t reach into his pocket. He made no reply to the bum. He turned and walked away. But the words haunt him to this day.

Born into life.

Born into strife.

The blessing of riches,

Or none at all.

Do we really have a choice?

The Existence of Death

The title seems like an oxymoron.  But everything on earth has a beginning and an end.

That statement alone is something to ponder for three weeks.  But let’s take a look at this:

Something strikes me that’s worth thinking about. I don’t exactly know how to prove it by the Bible. But I think there’s enough general knowledge to give this some support.

From the very beginning God created animals on this planet that had to consume other life in order to survive. I don’t believe that kind of activity could be found in heaven. But then I just don’t know.

Evidently death was already on this planet before Adam was created. At least a certain kind of death was already here. A plant would grow, produce fruit, and have it be consumed by some other creature. At the very least existence, then nonexistence, was already here.

Ponder that a few minutes. I would love to know what you think.

A certain point is very interesting to me: Eve had some understanding of nonexistence before she ate the forbidden fruit. That’s how satan could make a play on God’s words, and expect Eve to understand.

“What’s in Your House?”

Even while the people stood amazed at the freedom given to the man of the tombs, the legion of demons found new homes. While the bodies of pigs floated out to sea, the people received as open doors with welcome mats.

The demons begged that they should not have to leave the region. I guarantee you they didn’t leave. They begged to enter the pigs. I guarantee you they didn’t drown with the pigs.

No, they were alive and well. They went to work on the people of that region immediately. Read the response of the people; and they begged the Lord to leave their area.

People are being healed by the Lord these days. Where do their demons go? They go to anyone who is willing to embrace their filthy ways.

“What’s in your house?”

(Mark 5)

Division

You can live inside of a lie. But not for long. There is no lie in Life. And you know that.

If something “is not” yet is promoted as if it is, those who promote it are living inside a lie. Such people are filled up with grand notions of self importance, all the while what they think they have will evaporate to what it was while they thought they had “something”.
What I’ve just written is a law of eternity and will never be pushed aside.

And something more:
If you promote a lie that injures the lives of others (no matter their nearness to you) you are an accomplice to their troubles. Therefore, such a person is guilty of willingly living death, and spreading that death to others.

I know such people think they are being useful. But ignorant harm is no less damaging than willful violence.

Examine the fruit of what you are promoting. Does it create peace and Life? Or does it lead to more divisions and violence.

This truth does not address Christians alone.  It remains in place for all people.

Why add to your own condemnation? Be a servant of Life, or remain an agent of death. Doesn’t the choice belong to everyone individually?

Take Your Rightful Place

There is a place where a child has learned enough.  From that place he is expected to do the things of an adult.

It is not appropriate for someone who has learned what is required of an adult to go back to his childhood and claim ignorance.  It is no longer ignorance, it is rebellion.    But isn’t the world teaming with such individuals?  And isn’t there a lot of childish behavior among the Church of Christ?

Yes.  The same is true with the things of God.  One who has newly encountered the things of holiness does not have the same expectations placed on him as the one who is well-versed in the things of God.  And just like the child, ignorance can be no excuse when there are so very many possibilities to learn.

But when the time is right, God will expect of us the things appropriate to the understanding we have achieved.  Provided that the Christian applies himself to learn.

Be childlike in your faith.  Be responsible with what you have been given.   See how a family is ashamed when one of its members refuses maturity.   Let us not be a shameful member of Christ’s bride.

The Effective Life

Pack up your television, cell phone, radio, the social circus, and all the gossip you can carry. Make the trip to prayer with all these things. I guarantee you your prayer time will be useless.

All those things require the senses and the mind of the flesh. But prayer requires your soul alone.

You can’t navigate a ship if you stay under deck. You’ll certainly drift if you stay in the ship’s lounge watching TV. You have to go topside to use all the navigational equipment. You have to be topside to enjoy the journey. If you wanted to watch TV you could’ve stayed home.

The same is true with the ship of your body. You have to set your mind on the Spirit of God. The flesh cannot perceive the Spirit of God, but the soul can. You have to use your mind to make a choice.

You can’t just ask God to come in and teach you. You have to go to the front door, open it, see the Spirit of God face-to-face, and allow him a place to sit in your mind. Then you can hear him. Then you can work with him. Then you can learn from him. It’s only then that the things of Christ get accomplished.

Now the question comes: what preoccupies your day, the flesh or the soul. If your answer is the flesh then how can you hear the voice of God? And what preoccupies your time of prayer? That’s a much deeper question.

Drop all your “stuff” and answer the door.
