Hiwaychristian’s Diner

If I were witness to a great godly movement in America, I would not write so much.  But instead of a godly movement I see a movement toward hell itself.  A scurry toward all that is wicked.

So I will share what I am fed.  If it is too much to eat, you are welcome to go exercise until you are hungry again.  And perhaps it is best, for when you are full you leave the seat to he who is hungry.

Habitual Behavior

People fall because they think too highly of their feet.  While we should be considering our feet’s limitations, we place our trust in their agility.  But are feet are not sentient beings. Why do we treat them as if they are trustworthy slaves?  If you don’t watch over them, they will do the very thing you don’t want them to do. The one who rarely stumbles or falls is the one who makes it a habit to remember limitations.

Likewise, if every driver considered the limitations of his car more often than he considers its agility, there would be far fewer accidents.  If every driver made it a habit to drive as if he is driving on slick roads, he would never end up in the ditch.  He would never “swap paint” with another.  Would never donate his bumper to public disgrace.

If every Christian made it a habit to remember that he can fail, and that the source of his strength is God alone, he would never stumble.

Agility in Christ demands habitual use of Bible reading, prayer and practice.  Lack the habitual use of any of these three, and the Christian is bound to suffer loss.

To our shame, when a person falls, or crashes his car, or suffers loss in Christ, some variation of the following phrase can be heard: “I am only human”.  It is to our shame because diligent and habitual behavior could have transformed us into something radically more.  We were lazy, we were derelict, we were willingly rebellious.  What we thought we would become has escaped us.  And the fault lies clearly in our own lap.

If that is the state of your yesterdays, it need not be the state of your affairs today.  And tomorrow can be all the more secure.  All you need to do is to transform yourself into a diligent and habitual person, and this by the renewal of your mind.

What belongs to yesterday, belongs to yesterday.  Today belongs to you.  Tomorrow belongs to the one who profits from what you do today.

Don’t bother yourself with a vow.  Simply start doing the things that are good.

Write a letter to yourself, and read it when it arrives again.  Make sure you write often, you are a very lonely person.  And why wouldn’t you write back, understanding your frailty?  Its not only good social etiquette, it’s also a deed of mercy.

Begin keeping a journal or diary, and please make sure to go back and read the days before.  Do you really think anyone else will care about what you have written?  So if you’re not going to read it, why write?

Let these things become a habit and there is no need for a vow, which can so easily be broken.  Remember your New Year’s resolutions?  Haven’t you figured it out yet?  Those who have to wait for a special day to make a vow, will never be capable of keeping it.

Leave your Bible in conspicuous places.  Write down certain passages and put them in every place your eyes might go.  (On the toilet seat, on the mirror, under the cap of your deodorant, paste it on your pillow sticky side up. Do these things nightly for the preparation of the person you will be tomorrow.  While you’re at it, you might throw a few bucks into 3M stocks.) Memorize passages and think them through.  Make it a habit to do these things, and the Living Word of the Living God will begin to live in you.

When it comes to prayer you will take note that you have a distinct, “I don wanna”.  So what.  If you force your feet habitually to go to the place of prayer.  If you habitually force your knees to bend when your feet have arrived.  If you will force the first few words from your mouth, as a habit it in that place.  You will learn to adore your time of prayer.

As for practice, every man does the things he learns to love.  As our habits are, so follows our love.  And what we love is a blatant proclamation of who we have become.

“Have”

The word “have” is very curious.  With that word we pronounce ownership.  “I have a car.”  “I have a coat.”  “I have an apple.”

Perhaps there is a moment when those three things can be true.  But just like with everything in this world, “have” is destined to face a certain demise.  Three of its letters are taken away and one is given.  In the stroke of a moment, “have” becomes “had”.  (pun intended)

This being the case, it is right to ask the following question.  Does “have” own and eternal definition?  Is there a place where what we have cannot ever leave us?

And forgive me for meddling in the affairs of men.  But why do we place such prominence on the things we cannot keep?  Why do we love the word “have” and despise the word “had”, when the second reigns supreme over the first.

I’ll leave it to the reader to think it through.

Purchased Authority

Authority is such a fleeting reward.  For a price you can gain believability.  Man has bottled the truth of the Living God, and will sell it for a certain price.

The manufacturing facilities are called colleges.  A man or woman is vetted by those who say they know.  Authority is not given without a punishing ordeal.  But once it is received a man may walk about this earth as if full of power.

But is the authority given by men truly a viable resource of truth?  Or is it a source of division?   At worst a ruse.

I don’t claim to know the price tag for a bachelor’s degree today.  I can’t remember the cost of my own.  But on cursory search it looks to be over $10,000.  With that a man has preliminary authority.

But let him search for more strength.  Man has created better, better and best.  You can gain what is called a masters degree.  Then if you are a truly diligent and godly man, you may seek for a doctorate!

What is the price tag of a Doctorate degree?    A man could easily spend 200 thousand dollars.  But don’t bulk!  Consider the authority he has just purchased.

How much did Moses spend to become the voice of God for Holy Law?  For what price did Abraham pay to achieve the title of “Father of faith”?  I wonder what Adam paid to become the first man.  And the College of shipbuilding seems to have faded into obscurity; yet Noah built an ark which withstood the most fierce of raging waters.

Was there a college available that helped Christians endure murder at the hands of the Romans?  Does anyone even ask what degree Billy Graham had procured?

There ought to be a sign above every Christian college door,
ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK“.  For there you will learn what men have to teach.  My friend, I testify, they are persuasive.  But I also testify they are utterly useless.  The summation of their teaching is simply one sentence: Seek the Living God in Christ Jesus”.

Why do I need to spend 200 thousand dollars to do that?  The answer comes back as a slap in the face.  “If you want men to listen to you, you have to have an authority they respect.”

Really?  Is that why the Christian Church is such a vital part of this world today?  Is that why there is a line outside every church on Sunday morning waiting to hear the sermon?  Is that why the parking lots are crammed with more cars than the Super Bowl parking lot?

Thank you for the answer.  I confess I didn’t know.

“Arrive Alive”

A saying spoken by leadership in the trucking industry, finds its use elevated during winter storms.  It was sent out again this morning.

I can’t help it.  When I see them use this phrase, I just shake my head.  They’re talking about getting to our destination.  How can I arrive at my destination on earth if I’m dead?  There’s got to be a formal title for this thoughtless use of words.

Their fear is expressed with a ridiculous set of words.  But it does open opportunity for testimony.

My destination is the throne of the Most High God, dressed in a robe given by the sacrifice of Christ.  That destination is first in my mind.  If this were the destination the leaders in the trucking industry were referring to, then I would nod amen.

I will arrive alive, and that forever.  But contrary to their use of the phrase, I must first die.  On the other hand, isn’t the promise given to us before we even die?

They’re simply trying to protect their own resources.  But I don’t understand why they should use such a foolish set of words.

My flesh gets a Ripin

Everybody loves to see the bad guy get a whoopin.  Even a bold tongue lashing satisfies the itch for justice.  Isn’t that how Hollywood makes most of their bucks?

I invite you to my personal altercation.   The setting is that imperceptible slice between soul and body.   It was held in that tiny room that no man can enter alone.

Every house has a room like this, but not very many people know where it is.  The people who are proud of their house would even deny that such a room can exist within their four walls.  Even immaculate places of men  have hideous secrets.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This isn’t the first time I’ve sat you down for a talk.  It’s not possible that this is the last time either.
I know these talks don’t do you any good.  Cuz every time you nod, like you understand, I hear the loose screws rattle around.  Yeah, just like that.
But I just need to vent a little bit, and now’s as good a time as any.
I don’t mean this bad, but you are simply insane.  Nothing you want will ever come to you.  And you trash everything you do get.
Apparently you don’t know anything about age.  You seem to think you’re still 17 and single.  The only things you ever remember are all the good times you had while you were flatline stupid.
You always have some foolish suggestion when I look to do things right.  And I just get tired of listening to you babble.
You lust after everything.  Your strawberry isn’t big enough, ripe enough or juicy enough.  There isn’t a plate in our house big enough to satisfy your tiny belly.
If you do something and don’t get caught, you think you’re righteous.  If I could finish my time here without you, I’d throw you into a dungeon myself.
You used to carry me around every place you wanted to go.  But now I gotta drag your worthless legs every where.
The only bright side to this ungodly union, is that you don’t have much time left.  Man oh man, will I be happy on the morning when you stop being able to open your greedy eyes!  Cuz that’s the morning when I get a whole new set.
Well its been real nice talking to you.  Strangely enough, I do feel better.  I appreciate your silence for the last few minutes.  Even if I found it hard to bear your blank stare.
