Let it Do Its Work

People pay all kinds of money to attend concerts.  They endure all manner of inconvenience to go to the movies.  And it used to be, that people would trudge miles just to attend an hour or two speech by someone important.

But the sweetest rendering of a song, is played in the memory.  The visual effects of a movie come to life in the imagination.  And the words of a great orator are best heard when they combine with personal experiences, unique to each one who heard, and delivered in their proper time.

As it is with the life among men, so it is with the things of Heaven.  We should not fall to manipulation as we hand out the words of life.  It is better to let the one who hears stew as the heat of his soul allows.  If there is a boiling over to occur, it is best to be done by a direct source of heat.  We don’t put the pot near the burner.  We carefully place it centered above the heat.  Then, we leave it alone to do its work.

All things in creation tell the story of Christ Jesus.  Even the sins of a man speak the testimony of the Christ.  Let the Glory of God do its work.  Deliver the Gospel, and then step aside;  as if all we do is turn on the switch to the burner.  Show me a man who keeps his hand on the knob while the food cooks, and I’ll show you someone who lacks any reasonable judgment.

Risk Belongs to the Valliant

A rich man drove his new BMW to an important meeting.  In the crowded traffic he became stuck in rush hour.

A dirty ragged man came to wash his windshield, at least that’s what the rich man thought.  Instead the bum came over to his driver’s window.

With serious and intelligent eyes, the bum encouraged the man to roll down his window.  With regret, the window move down about 2 inches.

“Give me your shiny car and I will give you all the money in my pocket.”  The bum said.

The rich man smiled.  His eyes lit up, like a hunter who has spotted a trophy.  He opened the door and stepped outside.  He handed the bum his keys and said, “Where can I send you the title”.

With a great loving smile the bum reached in his pockets.  His dirty craggy fingers hauled out five rather large rolls of hundred dollar bills.  “I’ll Drive you to your office and wait for you while you get the title.”

The deal had been struck.  With compassion and abandon for life, the rich man had gained a precious memory.

The title was exchanged.  When the rich man counted the money, the total came to the price he had paid for the car.

What became of the bum and the car, no one knows.  But what became of the rich man’s heart was easily seen by the life he later chose.  He had been released from the fear of greed.  And all because he was not afraid to take a chance.  He counted compassion as more valuable than money.

“From the days of John the Baptist until now, life is given unto the kingdom of the heavens, and the valiant take hold of it.”  (Matthew 11:12, Jubilee Bible 2000)

The Conductor

The Holy Lord of life is rich in splendor.  In his wisdom he gives gifts to men.

Obscuring pride by dispensing faith, the Most High God provides praise for his Holy Son.

10 million men speak willingly of the Glory of God.  By the power of the Holy Spirit they have received, so they speak according to the wisdom of the Living God.

Even the contemplations of the wicked are fraught with Holy themes.  The story of God’s Christ is replete among the things of men.

Unavoidable Glory is produced in all creation,  both heaven and earth.  For the work of Christ is so dearly loved by His Holy and Righteous Father.

It is right to desire to be more for His Holy sake.  But wisdom teaches us to retain the seat we are given, as we play our received instrument in his Holy Symphony of Love.

Give Me Knowledge

Tell me you don’t believe that you are saved by faith alone.  Tell me your faith has produced a doing.

Give me solace in this place of testing.  Confirm your viable Christianity.

Tell me you do not rely on association for the hope of your salvation.  Tell me you do not attend church because you think that will save you.

But display the Living Faith in the Living God and His Christ.  Let the overflow of Life giving water be evident.

Do not cheat me of hope for you.  Do not rob me of joy.

Do not make me guess about the end of your days.  Do not make your loved ones cry hopeless tears of sorrow.

May the brotherhood of Christ praise the God who has saved you.  May your name find association with holy doing.

Otherwise you are only a noise.  Otherwise you are only a dispelled shadow.

The Great Parade

They come from everywhere, every possible way of life.

They gather together every morning, in the field of preparation.

As the Sun rises to its brilliance, the parade begins its journey.

Young men, young women, old men, old women, babes in arms, and toddlers screaming; all the mix of humanity walks toward the sunset.
*********
Look, here comes the working man.  His muscles formed like rocks.

Right behind him hobbles one, who’s barely able to walk.

A warrior’s he on bended knee, he’s crippled from the fight.

And passing him, a stately man; selfish pride his only might.

The vast parade of people, march before His Holy Throne.

Countless hundreds of billions, have come and gone alone.

I marvel so to think I might, catch the eye of He who’s Endless Life!

For where within this vast parade might my tiny body be?

Yet to my great joyous surprise, He comes and kisses me.

“What is man that you are mindful of him?”

The Singular Enemy

I have an enemy who stocks me day and night.  Nothing I do, ever escapes his notice.  He is more agile than any beast of the field, and can do more damage than any lethal weapon of man.

Though I do the very works of God, he stands ready to destroy.  With the slightest of movement from his vicious hand, he can undo years of accomplishment.  And my only hope of escape from his prying eyes is death itself.

What kind of creature is he?  And what name should I give him?  I am not speaking of the father of lies.  I am speaking of myself.
