To Quit or Not to Quit.

We stumble into sin.  All of us do.  For some, the sins are far less frequent than they are for others.  Let’s be real, some sins seem bit a speck of dust compared with the sins of other people.  But the bond is broken between the sinner and God.  The fear, pain and humiliation is just as real no matter the sin.

Many times the temptation comes to just quit trying.  It’s a real and vivid part of being a Christian.  But many don’t give up.  Why?

Because they consider that it is better to be caught trying to obey.  Because they consider that it is preferable to be least in the Kingdom of God than to fall into judgment.  And because they realize that they have walked some distance before this day, and are determined to walk a few steps farther.  Yeah, the call of Jesus is that compelling and sweet.

But the singular reason why they get up and try again is that they have become convinced about one truth.  GOD CANNOT LIE!

License to Sin.

When God is a shameful belief, and joyful obedience is considered a sin against humanity,  what shall we expect to see?

When it is a badge of honor to be wicked, and the more ingenious the wickedness the more accolades are cast, what shall we expect to see?

Shall we look for proper men and women to appear?  Will the well of trustworthy adults and children be a source of joy, health, godly encouragement,  and strength?

Such a people who honor wickedness will find no honor from God.  They will weep great sobs when His beauty is revealed.  They will not enter His presence, though even now their folly will disagree with those words.  No, my fellow travelers in this place of testing, you will not enter His Eternal Kingdom dressed in your insatiable lust.

God does not lie.  There are promises for those who obey by faith.  And there are promises for those who rebell by putrid flesh.  It doesn’t matter whether you agree or not.

By His Grace.

Yeah! That’s what I’m talking about.

There’s so much to say and learn and study about the gospel. You could read a certain passage in the Bible 500 times, and time 501 you would come up with an entirely new insight.

That’s the way it was for me when I read about the crucifixion of Jesus this morning. Just when you get to the point where Jesus dies, hundreds of holy men come out of their graves and go through the city.

Before my mind could go with Jesus into the grave to wonder what happened there, my eyes and feet go with these men into the city!

Their salvation was proved to them they were raised from the dead and they will never die again! They have what we pine for. No longer do they work out their salvation with fear and trembling.  They are before the Lord forever.

And because of their witness, I am set to the task again to consider, have I secured the salvation I so dearly desire?

Do you think it’s odd to hear a Christian question his salvation? If you think its odd you are not familiar with the following verse:  “Make every effort to enter for many I tell you I will try but will not be able to”.

Bottom line response from the reading this morning: I am pleased and shocked and terrified and put to sober mind to reconsider my salvation.

Well now.

Are you tired of seeing Christians post all that stuff you don’t want to read? And you’ve learned how to be fairly adept at getting around it; not reading it recognizing strains of words and avoiding them.

But I just got to know. What are your plans to avoid the Most High God who provokes all these words?  When you’re standing there face to face with Him where will you go what channel will you change?

Since I encounter is inevitable it might do well for you to change how you perceive his words.

Two directions

It has been often misunderstood and miss represented. Eternal life and eternal death are not near each other.

It has been written as if the paths are parallel and lead us to a place separated simply by a wall.

The Bible does not teach that there are any similarities between heaven and hell. Unless you want to count that there are souls of men in each.

Instead the Bible teaches that light has nothing to do with darkness. God’s ways have nothing to do with satan’s ways. God’s Way is spirit and life. Satan’s Way is flesh and death. God abhors the things of this world whereas satan loves them.

The paths to heaven and hell are not parallel they are running in opposite directions. There are no crossover street from one to the other. The only way off the highway to hell is to be picked up and transplanted into the highway of heaven. And this action can only be accomplished by the Son of God.

2nd Notes From Reading “The Shepherd of Hermas”

The Church has not decided to include “The Shepherd of Hermas” in what we know of today as the Bible.  And I can see why such writings were not considered directly from God’s Holy Throne.  The author’s writings are much like mine.  They are not the pure revelation from God, but the interpretation of revelation.  However, let us not dismiss such work as worthless (or even worse, that of demons).  For there is great benefit to be had as men speak to one another regarding the things of God.

There is an item worth mention in his writings.  The reader of this post should do their soul good by reading the original text.  Some things such men write penetrate as deeply as a word from the Lord Himself.  And how do I know but this particular vision was not from the Lord.  By the power it is having on my heart I would consider the vision as God given.

There was a tower being built by Angels.  The stones used were so perfectly unionized that their joints were not visible.  When the Shepherd asked what was the meaning of this, he was told that the stones represented obedient Christians.  And that the tower was created entirely for God’s eternal purposes, and composed entirely of such men.  There were other stones which could not be used due to cracking, unevenness, and even rounded corners.  These other stones were not necessarily unusable.  But their use was less than glory.

I am given pause to consider that my past will come with me into my appearance before the Lord of Life.  And I confess that the vision related has left a mark on my thinking.  May God allow that the vision will not leave me till I appear before Him.

By His Grace.
