Errant Blind Souls

If I could train my foolish brain to recognize people as errant blind souls wandering in a suit of flesh, I believe forgiveness would flow like a river.  Though there is forgiveness as I live in Christ, it is often by compulsion.  It’s rarely the first thought.

I think about the reason for this inability to perceive correctly and consistently.  I think it has something to do with the deluge of trinkets and baubles which mask the true Man.

Perhaps it was slightly easier in early Christianity, where there were less objects of affection to be had.  I can’t possibly know, and I don’t think anyone will ever be able to say for sure.  Only God truly knows.

Pride certainly holds a relevant kingship when it comes to masking the true soul of a man.  And doesn’t pride come in such a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and intensity?  But Pride’s robe is made up of all the things a man may amass to declare his kingship over his own soul.  To get to the heart of a man you have to slice through the garbage.  Undoubtedly, recognizing people as blind errant souls gets far more difficult as the abundance of wealth gathers to hide them.

And I think it’s appropriate here to mention that the abundance of things that hide a soul need not necessarily be costly items.  There is the wealth of social alienation.  This alienation relies chiefly on violence as its display.  From ignoring to  physical violence, such a man says, without speaking, “Get past this if you can”.

Regardless all these things, it is to the Christian’s benefit to perceive his fellow Man as an errant blind soul (just like himself).  Certainly something worth thinking on.

From my own perspective, here is a small list of shills people use.

Politics
Religion
Social position
Tradition
Jokes
Rude behavior
Foul language
A pleasant countenance
Apathy
Social intelligence
Clothing
Makeup
Race
Creed
Exclusive clubs
Deviant behavior
Drugs and alcohol
All manner of things that can be bought

All these things mask the true Man.  Who is capable of perceiving past these things on a consistent basis?

15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16 But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.” (John 8)

My memory is renewed to consider that God in Christ alone is able to reach any soul.

The Promise of Hope

The promise of God, to those who love him and worship his Holy Son, is eternal life.  Think about it; Eternal Life!

His promise brings to us something that is thoroughly beyond our understanding.  Yet those who believe this, become transformed by the power behind that very thought.

Do you believe?  Have you taken the time to let it sink in?  Do you wake every morning and go to sleep every night, considering the beauty of his promise?

While God’s people consider this with all their might, the world worships zombies, movies about dinosaurs, sex, sports, money, all the trinkets of life, relationships among men, status, and the works of their own hands.  All of these doings done with death looming in their future, and trouble along their way.

Such a vast chasm of living between those who believe and those who refuse!

As I ponder this I am shocked to realize that the percentage of those who believe compared to those who do not is less than one percent.  And even of that one percent, I find doubt.  Among this number there are many who cannot find the will to continue in that belief.

All he asks is that we believe he cannot lie.

When we stand before him, will today provide regret?  Or will we bend our will to believe?

The Fashion Police

Attire of the rich changes from day to day.  Their majesty is not stability, it is chaos.  They lock away acceptance by changing the combination often.  They give the number to those they choose.  Then before it is finished receiving the number is changed again.

What is this fashion?  Is it the sum of things a man might own?  No, this fashion of theirs cannot be held in the hand.  This fashion of theirs is a game of exclusion, and a ruse.

They make the rules of acceptance.  They are the final authority on the love of man.  They themselves are the police who jail all others at will.  They are the judge of what is good and what is evil.  No one enters without their consent.  And those who are in, can be cast away without explanation.  They are the rulers of all creation!

Am I speaking of the rich?  Am I speaking of the famous?  Am I speaking of celebrities, or the great leaders of this world?

Who is he who makes his own rules?  Who is he that excludes others from his friendship?  Who is he who judges by appearance?  Who is he who condemns without hearing the man’s excuses?  Who is he who loves himself more than others?

Does it take power to hate?  Does it take the fame to be proud?  Does it take excellent clothing to consider one’s self as royal?

Why should I provide the answer to all these questions?  You would not accept them if I did.  There, you answer them!  You are the one who polices your own fashion.  Then answer these questions if you can.

From the pathetic beggar on the street, to the fool who lives in opulence, we have all turned away from the Living God.  We have set a lock on the door of our heart.  We will be king!  God himself will bow to us!  We will have his throne!  Let us simply lay our hands on him, and we will kill him!

You say this is crazy talk!  Is it now?  Prove it to me.  Show me what a tiny place you have left for the rule of God in your life.  Show me the doors of your heart.  Prove to me you have removed the locks.
