The Stream

What a curious place I’ve come to rest.

The hills and valleys behind me speak of a journey to here.

I sit beside a stream today and observe what lay below.

The waters have the appearance of moving.

Yet they only writhe with life.

Shimmering in the shafts of sunlight caused to be by the One who made all the earth.

I listen in the cool of the day.

And I watch with wonder and concern.

Listen to the noise the stream makes.

A certain babbling and an occasional whisper of intelligence.

I hear the name of God called out.

But it’s not the name I’ve come to know.

Once in a while a hand lifts up, as if asking for help from somewhere.

But no help arrives, and no notice is given.

The banks of the stream are high and have worn themselves steep over time.

“This far you shall come and no more” is written on the banks.

This stream is not a stream of water.

And the source of it’s birth is never found.

For the stream is the parade of humanity;

That brood of souls which wanders through eternity according to a clock.

I have tried to speak to them.

But my language is not understood.

How desperate I became, from time to time,

Yet they would not hear.

Looking left and right, I seek another to share this vision.

But there is none to be found.

For I have arrived in this place in the forest alone,

But for the Glory of God in Christ which led me here.

So I whisper in His ear the sights I perceive.

And how limp my bones have become.

For those who constitute the waters below are destined to dry up

When they reach the arid sands, yet unknown.

It is He who leads which will lead them out.

But they do not know His ways.

Their hands are busy praising their own works.

As the Leader has promised would be so.

Even so, “Come Lord Jesus!”

Come in all Your splendor!

The Holy Will of the Father must be accomplished!

Regardless the plight of those who hate the Light,

The Holy Will of the Father must be accomplished!

Amen, Amen, and Amen!

600,000. To Every Church. To Every Christian.

600,000 men, including their women and children were led out of Egypt by great wonders and signs from God.  Yet none of them will inherit eternal life.  God swore by Himself that they would not enter His rest.  Though they were witnesses of His majesty among them, they did not combine their witness with faith.  What does this mean?  Does this apply to us today?

Hebrews says that those people heard the Gospel just as we have.  But they did not combine it with faith.  Read the account in Exodus.  Then read the witness against them in Hebrews.  Then consider this:

What have we heard?  We have heard that God sent His son into the world to save the world by offering Himself as a sacrifice for any who would receive Him.  But what does it mean to receive Him?  You have heard that Christians refer to Jesus as Lord.  Nevertheless, many refuse to turn away from the things of this world.  They retain a perceived “right” to do as they please without considering the Will of God in their daily lives.  To do this is to act just as those 600,000 who are never to see Life.

Those 600,000+ saw the plagues God sent upon Egypt.  They received the orders from Moses regarding the Passover.  They obeyed by a certain fear, born of the sights and sounds they witnessed.  They received valuables from the people of Egypt as they left.  And in this way, they plundered the slave masters who had beaten them for no reason.  They encamped against the sea as Egypt’s army approached.  They witnessed the fantastic miracle of a parting sea.  And they walked across the sea on dry land.  They watched with great surprise as the power of death at the hands of Egypt was crushed by tons of water; not one soldier survived.  They were given food and water; food from heaven and water from a rock.  Yet they complained constantly saying, “It would have been better for us to have died in Egypt.”  For this reason, God swore on oath that they would never enter His rest.

God is willing to reveal Himself to those who separate themselves from this world and worship Him through Jesus.  And in this way, we are now counted as those being tested as they were.  How many millions have already received that same oath against them?  To those who think that calling themselves something makes them that something, God remains concealed.  There is a place where we enter in.  Those who submit to Jesus’ Lordship know of that place.  While those who insist on having their own way, do not know of that place.  To them, this article speaks of something they know nothing about.  They will discount its value without consideration of what I am saying here.

What does it mean to see the wonders of God and not combine it with faith?  Simply put, it means that we recognize the work of God in our lives and put our faith in His guidance, protection, and willingness to sustain us in all things.  We turn our troubles over to Him.  We obey the call to read His Word the Bible.  We learn to pray according to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.  And we grow in the knowledge of the Lord as we work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.  These are actions, which display a faith born of the witness of His Glory, which is given to all people.  And as we walk under these things, we learn to do the Holy Works of God.  We no longer do as we please.  Rather, we learn to do as we are taught.  And in the end, it is God who will receive the Glory for His works among us.  No more of this: “God will receive me for I am a good person.”

Those who are found empty of these things are not inheriting the Kingdom of Heaven.  Though you observe many rituals and words, they are void and empty if you do not submit your life to the Lordship of Jesus.  How can I say this any clearer?  How many men have tried to warn us of these things?  Yet, how many still think that to mouth words is sufficient.  Have those who believe this ever heard it said that they honor Him with their lips, but their heart is far from Him?

Millions today think that if they do enough good deeds God will welcome them into the Kingdom of Heaven with respect and glory.  But do they do the deeds of God?  A good deed in the eyes of man has as much a chance of being a good deed of God as a frog has of becoming a gnat.  God said, and we would do well to give this great consideration, that every good deed of man is as filthy rags (the rag of a woman’s period).  How can He say this of such selfless work on the part of man?  Is it selfless indeed?  Aren’t you doing these things so that you will receive?  Even if you do not expect to receive from men a return for the work you do for them, you do expect to receive from God because you perceive yourself as such a good person.  Your good deeds, done from your own mind are selfish acts of rebellion.  God alone knows what is Good!  And your not turning to Him for guidance and restraint of selfishness will be counted against you.

I do not know how to say this any clearer.  I do not want any who hear of the Lord Jesus to receive that oath of curse.  How I long to see the number of God’s people grow.  However, you will have none of it!  Why?  Why won’t you listen to these words?  Why won’t you reason regarding the Gospel?  Why do you insist on being worthy of God’s praise without God’s leadership in your life?  Why?

Jesus alone has done the will of God in the body.  And He alone will be the source of salvation.  Nothing we can do will usher us into the Glory of God the Father.  It is Jesus alone, who has that privilege.  I caution you to consider this truth with sobriety.

Rise up! Open the Door!

via Flickr”]behind closed doors

Darkness abounds.  Men grope about, touching unfamiliar objects.  Though the Sun rises and light appears to dawn in the land of the living dead, they do not perceive the Light which has shown from eternity to eternity.  To their loss, men continue to grope.  And in this frantic reaching for that which does not last, they live as if dead.  The rot of their greed is a stench which their noses do not smell.  With eyes glazed over with the things of this world, they see nothing.  They speak of things which have no meaning but destruction; to themselves and those who hear their words.  But they do not perceive their plight.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”  Like a man who fears the one who holds death in his hand, the living dead fear the sound of this knocking.  In their dead lives they perceive God’s calling as an omen of tragedy.  Yet, what do they have that is not tragedy?  How can encountering this Beautiful One be more terrible than the life they are now leading?  Still, how very few even ask, “Who is it who knocks on the door of my heart?”

Why do you fear what you do not understand?  What is this smell of fear in your house?  From who does that odor come?  It comes from you.  What do you have to lose that you have not already lost?  What do you have to gain that you have never tasted?  And with what will you redeem even one of your sins?

Rise up and open the door!  You are already dead before the Throne of the Most High God.  For the sentence is already passed on those who live without the Lord Jesus.  And those who say they serve Him, yet walk in darkness will not fare much better.  There is a place where those who have proclaimed the name of the Lord, but never walked with Him, will be shown for who they were.  And they will be assigned a place with the unbelievers.  Rise up!  Open the Door!

“I Found One!”

Puzzle piece

Image via Wikipedia

Two people work together to put a puzzle together.  It’s not a small puzzle, built for a child.  There are 600,294,385,001 pieces.  And they search with furrowed brows to find even one match.

“I found one!”  One of the people screams out with great joy.  The other’s head levels with inspecting eyes.  “Are you sure?”  Deft little fingers put the two together.  All the edges match perfectly.  The colors blend in seamlessly.  “YES!”

“What is it?”  A pause ensues.  Turning the two joined pieces around and around, they inspect the item of joy for any hope of understanding.  But in the end there is no possible way to know what it truly is.  Oh there’s colors that could be identified in various ways.  But in the end, there is simply joy that an answer has been found.  And back to their work they go.  But now they search with a renewed vigor.  For they have been given proof that some of the pieces DO fit.

This is what walking with God in Christ Jesus is like.  We hold in our hands only the answers we know we have found.   But we leave the Glory of understanding the bigger picture to the Lord who supplied both the puzzle and the two who work together.

Encounter with Holiness

Fire! Fire!

Image by Dave Hogg via Flickr

I looked and God focused my eyes.

What did I see, but a blazing inferno of Holiness.

I cried against the blast of heat,

“Where are You Lord?”  My voice consumed by the roar.

Listening ear turned toward the flames, while fear and confusion rage.

Then I heard.

A word spoken, and not to my ear.

The mind understood, and the heart comprehended.

Yet no sound moved that ear drum.

“Here I am.  Come into the flames.”

“I will die!  For those flames have no passage way.”

I replied what I perceived to the spoken unspoken words.

“That is exactly the point.”  Came the “understanding” again.

Desire for Him caused my feet to move forward.

And the horrible heat burned my soul.

Anguish and pain roared against my domain.

Yet, desire provoked me to walk.

I stood in the flame and beheld as I could.

And, with marvel, my sins dropped away.

Fullness of mind came to be mine, and I heard that unspoken word once again.

“You are clean now by My power and mercy.

Go back to your humble abode.”

“Oh Lord!” I cried out with a bellowing voice.

“Why can’t I stay here and learn?”

“I will teach you from here, to the place you live there.

And My ways you will learn in their full.

If you would desire to know what My will is for you,

you will find it among the people.”

Be Wise

Gavel

You, who beg the Lord to move against the wicked, consider this:

The Lord has been Holy from before this place of testing began.  He will be Holy for eternity.  He has established this place to test the hearts of man according to His perfect knowledge.  Wisdom has cloaked the Lord forever.  Wisdom will be His crown, for God does not change like shifting sands.  All the wicked will appear before Him.  And His words will never fail.

It is our folly to provoke His hand of judgment.  He has established a place where He will judge.  When He judges, His judgments will be final.  What word will they speak to their defense?  What will the lips of the condemned speak to wrench themselves loose from His Holy Hand?  They will appear before Him locked in the folly of their own ways.  Who are we to speed this horror on them?

Have you considered the billions of condemned?  Have you given thought to the wonder that you should know the Lord?  Has the marvel of your standing before Him utterly weakened your knees?  Does the praise of Glory, which belongs alone to Him, dripped from your lips with understanding?  You are blessed to know the Lord Jesus.  You have been blessed to receive what is withheld from billions.  Have you considered why?

We are a people of unclean lips.  And we live among a  people of unclean lips.  How will we avoid speaking these words, “Woe is me!”  We believe.  We come to know Him.  What of those who remain in the darkness from which we were plucked?  Encourage the Lord as you will, to speed His hand against His enemies.  But consider the fate you too deserved!  What if His people had spoken the same thing before you came to knowledge?  What if the Lord had moved with the speed requested by His people?  What would be your defense now?  Consider carefully.  For we worship the Living God who has promised an end to this place.  He has set a place in eternity to judge.  And, when that place is reached, there will be no place left to hide.

If we stand, we stand because of His mercy and patience.  What righteous do we own that has not come directly from the Holy Hand of He who gives understanding to all?  We stand because He determined to render mercy to us.  We are called to love Him because He has spoken life into our souls, thus we stand.  When they fall, it will be His wrath which calls them to His throne.  Have we done all we can?  Have we sought His Holy Will through prayer?  Are we still rebellious before His ways?  Do we dress our words of prayer with our own pitiful knowledge?  Are we guilty of speaking before The Living God with words without knowledge?

The speed of the Lord’s hand is tempered by His Mercy.  His patience clothes His ways; perfect and pure.  Love dictates to the heart of He who lives forever.  Consider carefully how you attempt to provoke the Lord to move against His enemies.  We too are only those redeemed from among them.  Are we more than charred sticks pulled from the fire?  Ask as you will, but understand what you ask.  Be very careful how you approach the Lord with such a request.  For it is not wise to provoke the Lord to perform what He is not willing to accomplish.  It is written, and will not be taken away; The Lord is not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to an understanding of His Glorious, loving, and patient ways.

Cease your incessant dribble.  Clap your hand over your mouth and seek understanding.  Understand the will of the God you serve.  Present yourself to His knowledge and learn His ways, lest we too fall because we live in ignorance.  Rise up and receive.  Receive the responsibility given to those who call on His Holy Name, Jesus.  He has given us the task of serving the Living God.  Though we are but grafted into the tree which is Israel, we are, none-the-less, grafted in.  All His promises are ours to hold.  Believe!  But believe with fear and trembling.  Consider our standing with a sober heart.  He is the Living God of all eternity!

Glory to God!  Bring Glory to your God!  He is the Living God who will bring an end to this place of testing according to His perfect wisdom, knowledge, and Glory.

By His Grace.
