Two deer passed by on the lawn this morning.  I watched them quietly to see what they would do with the garden.  The “mom” stopped at the peach tree to nibble a few leaves.   Both of them sniffed at the tomato plants.  But nothing was disturbed.  Ok then.  No fence for the garden this year.

Later I heard some splashing in the creek behind the tree line.  And it came to me how this experience is like that of men.  We are considered as trees.  The water is the true life within us.  And we often hear noises from the things which play in the water.  We can’t see what makes the noise, though we listen with all our might.  We know there is life behind what we can perceive by the sounds men make.

What a beautiful revelation to the heart to remember that it is God who works in us to will and to act according to His good purposes.  It is not up to man to create the will of God among us.  It is He who comes to us unseen and unperceived.  The result is an enjoyment of good things born of the Spirit of God in this corrupt world.

May God grant understanding to all who read this post.

Matthew 12: 34

Bark of a Blue Oak.

The tree sat silent, the sound from a backyard argument pierced it’s bark.  The waves of sound vibrated the fibers of the bark so slightly that no scientific instrument could measure it.  And those fibers remain as the tree grows.  There will come a day when that tree falls from age.  Yet those fibers will have been altered forever.  Though they rot and become food for the forest behind the lot where that house had stood, 300 years from now God will know what was done.

The men will have forgotten.  The words will not be found echoing between two mountains forever.  The air will absorb their noise quickly.  But God remembers.  Their hearts overflowed with anger.  But those hearts are now silent.  The bark was moved.  But now that bark is dust.  The bugs on and in that piece of bark also experienced something from the noise of their argument, as well as the grass.  All will die and rot, yet God remembers.

Consider what is around you and consider how everything we do is witnessed.  Yet there is a witness beyond this world.  It is wise to consider what we allow our hearts to hold, lest it overflow from our tongues.

34You offspring of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil (wicked)? For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks.

Bamboo in a Storm.

I look at a tree sway in the wind.  It is winter, so there are no leaves on the trees.  The tree is 100 ft high and swaying about 15 ft back and forth.  I consider the power placed on the roots as this tree sways back and forth.  What tremendous pressure is placed on the roots.  No man has to climb such a tree very far before he realizes the danger posed to him from the weight added to this pressure on the roots.

I remember that the Church, and even the individual people of God, are considered as branches in a tree.  How the world and sin place pressure on the people of God.   They buffet God’s people as the wind buffets this tree I see.  How the pressure on the roots, Jesus, grows as sin around us increases.  And I am given pause to consider how mighty must Jesus’ promises and strength be for the sake of His Church.

“Lord, what kind of tree must You have created here.  That we should be able to climb to the top of Your promises and remain in safety.  No sins or plots by men can come against You and Your people that would tear at the roots You have created.  What kind of tree might You be?”

He replies, “I am a mighty oak.  All who are of me can ride the storms with perfect safety.”   But does the Church, the people of the Sovereign God, realize who they are?   Do we see them living as though they are grown from the roots of a Mighty Oak?  No, sadly, we see our brothers and sisters living as though they are simply tiny branches of an over grown bamboo tree.  They live as though they are transplanted into a spindly tree and grown in a storm.  The fear of breaking is about them like a mist.

Take heart, O’ people of God!  You are of the One who cannot lie!  He has promised to bring you home.  So why do you doubt?  Praise Him and accept His Holy will in your life!  Rest as did our Lord in the boat!  Sleep with comfort in the midst of death and carnage.  You belong to the Holy One of Israel, the Mighty Oak of Heaven!  Raise up with the strength of those who BELIEVE!

By His Grace.
