Freedom À la Violence

“Wherefore, if you see another sin openly or commit a serious crime, do not consider yourself better, for you do not know how long you can remain in good estate. All men are frail, but you must admit that none is more frail than yourself.” Thomas à Kempis

                          BE SOBER!

There is no one more vile than I. For no one is more adept at destroying the work of God than my selfish nature which lives within me.

No matter what knowledge I have concerning righteousness, my roommate called selfishness knows nothing, desires nothing, and can produce nothing on his own. At the base of things, he only knows how to play with mud.

What counsel is there in these things? I see this: be careful not to judge the sinners all around us. For with one touch of the love of God, anyone of them can out strip us with the doings of the Holy Spirit.   Despise the action, but be ready to embrace the actor.

The one to whom much is forgiven, the same will love much. The one who is released from the deepest and darkest of dungeons will love the open spaces more. He understands captivity, and now embraces freedom with a violence.

But the one who does not perceive his own wickedness, this one sees no need to praise. Righteous humility eludes him.

God has raised mighty men from the sewer in the past. Rest assured, he is doing so today.

Change the World?

I don’t want to change the world. I want to bring heaven here. ———-

What will that do?

It will utterly dispose of trivial conversation.

It will rid the world of every evil thing.

It will glorify the name of Jesus for the glory of God the Father.

It will take away debate and opinion.

Greed and revenge will never be seen again.

It will bring an endless joy.

It will put an end to hope.

Everything that belongs to death will vaporize in an instant.

And the searing eyes of the wicked will never be seen again.

———-

Try to change the world all you want. Changing this place will not bring any of those here.

Our Haunting Past

My hands stay firm upon the wheel.  For I must go where I am sent.

Yet, memories catch up with me.

Ah, the piercing pain of stupidity!

The “hands” of my soul stretch far behind, to undo the past that tortures my mind.

There! In the mist, I see it now. I foolishly think, “I can reach it somehow”.

Then shadows do measure the distance between. That dark and gray mist is as light-years from me.

I haul my hands back, and give this some thought. “Remember from what your soul has been bought”.

The past is removed! Far more than my reach. “Lest, by misguided love, My promise you breach”.

Remember this, friends, when history assails. Whether seconds or centuries, as fear makes you pale.

You cannot go back. And no blame’s to be had, regardless your deeds (if they’re good or they’re bad).

As long as your trust is in Jesus, you see. Your sins are forgiven by Righteous Great Glory.

The Violence of Want

The door to peace locked.

For sure.

And no Man holds the key.

The door to loss is open wide

By the lack in you and me.

For hopes are like a falling leaf

From a winter ravaged tree.

A man rises now to promise peace,

Only fading from view.

You’ll see.

Such leaves will fall,

And grow again.

A trillion hopes will die.

Why give your dreams

To someone who

Can’t satisfy you and I?

Wait for God in Christ.

Be satisfied with “least”.

Stop pining over what you can’t.

Call out to He who’s Peace.

The Living Promise

The place where free will can be tested. A place where God’s commands can be broken. A place where free will can choose to love the One who made it, or despise Him forever.

A place where it is possible for violence to be king. A place where it is possible for compassion to suffer seemingly endless sorrow. A place where there is no such thing as innocence, until God Himself comes to inhabit a body.

That’s where we live, my Friends. Perhaps better said, that’s where we wait to die; when we will move into the next place of His creation.

With deft and Holy intent, He made this place. He has set unimaginable rewards in a place we have yet to see. He has entered into chaos to give life to dead bones. And billions have already been sealed for eternal life and joy.

Trust in Jesus cannot be useless. See how He delivered His promise. He did not come to deliver sorrow. He came into sorrow to deliver hope.

Mistrust of everything in this world is appropriate. Not so with the promise of God. We restrain our joy at the things this world offers. But isn’t that because this world can not deliver what we need. Empty promises and broken hearts is all the world has in its hand.

He promised you. It is impossible for Him to lie. When it comes to our Lord, we have every right to be full of joy and hope. If you have received the promise of God, you are engaged to be married to the King of all creation.

He will never abandon you. He will never leave you hungry. You will not be dressed in rags, nor struggle to survive, alone. You will from eat all the beautiful things he desires to create. You will be full of joy, and that eternally.

Measure the kind of hope He has delivered to our hearts. Measure, and be at peace.

The Good Die Young

Some say there is no God.  Others doubt that God cares.  Some think there is a God and that he cares, but they are left to fend for themselves in this place until they reach heaven.
Then can you explain why there is any good in this world at all?  What is it about the world that gives you the impression that good can triumph here?  A bad man succeeds, while a good man is shot down in the street.  And isn’t there a saying among us that the good die young?
The proof that there is a God remains in his faithfulness to deliver survival to a people who despised him so vehemently, and glorify violence and death.
You think you’re in control of your life?  Think about this:
A man in India, one single man, will do a single task today.  What others have done before him, throughout the world, will dictate what he does today.  Another man in Saudi Arabia will do something today.  He’s single action will reach you or your children sooner or later.  Are you really in control of your life?
People will do what they do.  They will say, or not say, what they want.  A handful will give glory to the Majesty of God among us.  But most will live their entire life giving no glory to God at all.  They may respect him and fear him but they refuse to speak of His Holy name in public.
Yes God cares, in spite of the fact that we don’t.  God is beautiful in Jesus the Christ.  Man is a mucus mold on eternity.  Still God holds out his hand to us.
18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,”

says the Lord.

“Though your sins are like scarlet,

they shall be as white as snow;

though they are red as crimson,

they shall be like wool.

19 If you are willing and obedient,

you will eat the good things of the land;

20 but if you resist and rebel,

you will be devoured by the sword.”  (Isaiah chapter 1)
