The Fearless and the Ordinary

Fearless, and ordinary passion for Christ will come face to face with the stubborn ignorance of this world.  But ordinary passion will lose the battle before it is begun.

Stubborn ignorance knows the difference.  When confronting ordinary passion, stubborn ignorance is allowed to use a variety of excuses.  For ordinary passion has only answers for himself.  His lamp is set for use in the house.  It is not built for travel in the streets.

But when stubborn ignorance comes face to face with fearless passion, calculated and decisive strikes will lower his guard.  The lamp of fearless passion is a blazing light that penetrates to the deepest parts of every man.  No matter how the armor of ignorance is turned, the gaps in its protection are pierced.

Fearless passion has a twinge of warrior.  But ordinary passion is a brother to self satisfaction.  This is a harsh saying, but it finds its truth in fruit.

Fearless passion is of the family of godly humility.  But ordinary passion is of the family of man.  Another harsh saying.  War requires a fearless heart.  While the ordinary its content with the domestic.

Fearless passion goes hunting for the transformation of men, regardless the threats to himself.  But ordinary passion has received his desire and finds himself satisfied; full of the gain he hoped to find.

Both passions recognize the holy fire of God (afterall, they are passions).  But the fearless enter in, allowing themselves to be burned by the work of God.  While the ordinary perceive God’s holy fire simply as protection and forgiveness of sins.

The Fearless desire to be sent.  The ordinary are content to stay at home.  By compulsion their message to the world will differ radically.  One perceives the gospel as a choice in lifestyle.   The other perceives the great weeping and gnashing of teeth that will surely come.

Fearless passion will enter into the war for souls.   He will not consider his life of any value, but that he should serve the Sovereign God in Christ.  With abandon, he counts his life as nothing.  He seeks to save the souls of others, and stands before the Lord, willing and daily, to be sent.

Ordinary passion respects the Lord’s love, but fails to make the connection between his own need for salvation and that of others.  Except where he is invited, he keeps the gospel to himself.  This is the proof of fruit that a man may easily see for himself.

Both passions will serve the living God.  But the domains, in which they serve, are radically different.  One is built to willingly embrace death and threat.  The other is built on the gladness of life.

Both will be received by the Holy Lord.  Both are a ligament response to the sacrifice of Christ.  But one seeks understanding (to the “doing), while the other is content to receive and become.

Personally I perceive that the fearless are the intent of the gospel.  But I will not shake the faith of the ordinary.  Still, I cannot help wondering what this world would be like if every Christian were fearless.

WAR!

All day long, we war against the desires of the flesh.  The world wars against the Lord we serve.  Therefore, they war against His people.  So we fight a war from within and without.  This will not be taken out of the way until the dirt covers the rotting doorway of this tent of flesh.  What shall be said of this plight we find ourselves in?

If we must war, then war with a vigorous health.  Bring Glory to the One who made you.  Bring that Glory with deeds born of the Holy Spirit which lives within you.  Crouch in the shadows of your soul and watch like a lion hungry for prey.  Seek out the sins of desire and devour them with a Holy strength.  Kill the desires of the flesh.  Do not make a room for them to live.  Though you close the door to that room, seal the door all around, allow no light to enter, nor build a window, those sins still live within you.  If you wish to win this war, you have to become violent toward anything that is not God within you.

If we must war, then war with the strength of a mighty one!   Remember how Israel was ordered to decimate the people living in the land they were to inherit.  And remember how we are urged to hate even clothing stained with sin.  If you want to win, then dig deep.

Consider a warrior’s scream.  Consider how it drives fear into the hearts of his enemies, and commits his entire being to the task at hand.  Death is embraced.  Fear is dispelled. Memories of a warm fire at home are forgotten.  What lies before him is his only concern.

Consider how he must prepare his mind, body, and soul to make that noise.  Before he screams, he fills his lungs with air.  Fill your heart with the Spirit of God.  Then when the air is released, his entire body is bent to the task.  Submit your mind, body, heart, and soul, to the will of God and vent His Holy Will within you.

Make war against sin with the might of a warrior of God.   To say we “struggle” against sin is not entirely accurate.  We WAR against sin!  You are not a victim!  You are called to FIGHT!  It is when we allow ourselves to become tired that we find ourselves losing the war.  But God did not give us a Spirit of timidity.  He gave us His Spirit which is pure, vital, powerful, never ending, never sleeping, faithful, and HOLY.

What say you?  Let’s dance the dance of the warrior!  Amen.

The Parting Warriors.

I was with them as they worshiped the One who is life itself.  And the power of His presence caused us all to reflect on eternity and true power.  The gathering was sweet and we shared our stories of His love.  And when we parted there was a feeling of joy mixed with a tiny loss of fellowship.  We all went out to live this faith He provokes.

A bit later, as I sat to order my meal, I saw others who had shared in His presence.  I didn’t know any of them.  But as I watched how they interacted with each other and those around them, I knew they were my brothers and sisters in Christ.  They are warriors of truth as all who profess His Holy name are.  And we see each other in passing as the warmth of fellowship fades away.

Then, as I watched a few finish their meal and leave, it occurred to me that they did a marvelous thing.  One by one they leave and go where I don’t know.  But as they leave they recede into darkness from my perspective.  They all go out into the dark world around us to do the will of He who is Light.  Though I don’t see them His work is accomplished every day.  He places His mighty hand before them as they walk away.  Directing their minds and hearts, even as I watch their backs leave my sight.

We may not see each other again in this place of testing.  But I know they serve the same Lord as I.  They are His and they do His will.  Yet there is another, more marvelous, thought.  Someone watched me go from there.  As I went out to serve Him, did anyone else notice how I faded into the dark world?  And does it matter that I might not have been noticed for the Glorious One’s Name?

It was just a moment of revelation.  Yet it builds the warrior up to do what is right without acclaim.  It is He who will be glorified by those who He teaches to love Him.  All Glory to the One who gives new life!

By His Grace.
