Filthy Rags to Glorious Riches

Jeffrey Frankel is attributed to the following saying:  “They say there are no atheists in foxholes.”  Now I don’t care one whit what atheists think of me posting that saying.  It has been determined that “A fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.'”  And who would consult a fool for wisdom?  Only another fool would do that.  I have been a fool.  But in respect to the reality of there being a God, I am no longer such.  And this preamble brings me to the meat of the post.

If God is called on in times when troubles escape our ability to cope, then why isn’t that same power effective in the smallest detail of our lives?  Why do people leave God when things go well enough?  He has told us that every good work we do on our own is as filthy rags.  Then why don’t we believe Him in that statement?

Seek God for absolutely every directive.  Look to Him for every thought, duty, emotion, sickness, and healthy moment.  This is the will of God for man.  It is this very point where millions have missed the blessing of the transforming power of God.

  1. “It has been determined that “A fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’””

No, it has not been determined. It has been claimed.

Same with the ‘foxholes’ comment, as there are actually atheist organizations in the military.

    Nice try, but no dice.

      • I’ve personally never sought god at any time since I became an adult. Not when my mum died, not when I’ve been in car accidents, not when I lost my job, not when my girlfirend left me, not when I was hospitalised. Why would I look for something I know isn’t there? That you seek solace in an unkowable, undetectable creator says a lot more about your own insecurity or feelings of guilt than my lack of belief says about me.

It’s kind of an open invite. And I really don’t mind that you chide me as if I were a fool. I know who He is and I know who I am. And, by your comment, I know who you are. There is another invite available. But you’re far too proud of yourself to accept it. If you keep going that way you will have an eternity to regret. Oh…. I forgot myself. You consider yourself God. I’m sorry.

  2. You call me proud yet see fit to gloat about my place in eternal damnation. Could I ask how much of god you have to be shown before it becomes mandatory you believe? Is merely being informed that some people in the West beleive in a god but not believing enough to send a billion Hindus to hell even though they have never been taught about your god? How about a non-believer who has been told by his or her parents that god does not exist? Are they for hell? What about someone who doesn’t believe because they were raped by their priest? Are they still doomed because of the actions of those who they have no control over?

My point is that one has little control over what one believes, so much is based on the education we receive in childhood, how can a loving, compassionate god forsake us due to our parents’ sin?

I cannot consider myself god because I know I exist.

If you want to know where I stand, I’ve written quite a bit on it. If you want to know where God stands, He too has written quite a lot on it. You manfacture what has already been made.

      • Or rather you can’t argue with me because there is no argumnet that makes any sense. If I am not capable of believing in your god because I have not been shown the light in the way you have, I am damned to hell for eternity. I’m not the same as anyone’s type, I’m just me. You’re the Christian who shares a belief system with others, not me. I make up my own mind.

      • I said it was your stance that blocks conversation. You’re like a man who stands on the steps of a doctor’s office complaining that there is nothing the doctor is able or willing to do to help you. The problem isn’t the doctor. It is where you stand. You are full of pride and arrogance. All it takes to be saved is to continually call on the name of Jesus to come to help you. Just believe……. It is that simple. But you refuse. This is the stance you choose to make. How is the doctor going to help someone like that?

I am just a receptionist. He has allowed me to give out this pill to your sort:

14 “It was also about these men that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, 15to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” 16These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage.” (Jude 1)

        Take this script and go.

  3. Firstly, I am not refusing to believe, I am unable. There is a huge difference. A person can be forced to do actions they do not want to do or can choose to do them by their own will but I cannot choose to believe in god any more than I could choose to believe the world is flat. I could choose to go to church, read the bible and pray but I cannot choose to believe something I am so sure is false. Belief in the unnatural god you speak of can only be brought around by indoctrination or brainwashing whether self inflicted or done by parents or school. It is an unusual position worldwide. There’s no point quoting scrpiture at me, I’ve already read it, its repetitive, divisive and disgusting. Its just a shame that so many people waste their lives like you when there is so much real good to be done.

    • See how you continue to debase yourself. You blame the Holy God of life for your state of affairs. It is you who will be held responsible for what you have just said. It is your “lips” that have spoken it. What is offered is enough. I would caution you to be silent and consider what I have already said to you. All men are already judged worthy of destruction. Jesus has made the way out. But if you remain defiant you will die.

I could coddle you with empty words of pitty. But what good will that do? You will shoot them down. I have chosen, rather, to be direct with you. Regardless how you perceive what I am saying to you, this is mercy.

      • I’m fully responsible for what I say and I blame no god for anything. To do so would be ridiculous. When did I say I blamed god? I only said I am unable to believe in god because I have been shown no reason to believe. If I am to believe without a reason, why should I believe in your god rather than any other? What makes yours more valid or true? (other than your personal beliefs which are of no value to me) Does your god routinely send people to hell because of their parents religious affiliation?

      • You confess that you are unable to believe. That means that God has cloaked you so that you are unable. You complain that you are to be pittied. Which leads us to believe, by your words, that God is a mean monster. Yes, you blame God for your state of affairs.

Your conversation and complaint are being wildly misdirected. You think that by confronting me you gain some advantage. You miss the point entirely. It is God you are arguing with while you look directly at my face. Your complaint isn’t with me. And what you think you’re looking for (though you’re really looking at all, only complaining) you will never find from me. I am not the One who made you. I am not the one who abused you. I am not the one you will answer to. But see how you think you win by presenting your childish complaints to me.

  4. “You confess that you are unable to believe. That means that God has cloaked you so that you are unable” – Wrong. I do not believe/am unable to believe because I see no reason to believe. There is no mean monster, there is nothing there at all. The god you believe in however seems incredibly spiteful to be so jealous over the beliefs of mere mortals.

I blame your upbringing for putting you into the mindset you have, I’m not arguing with god, I’m discussing with you.

You can call me childish yet you refuse to answer my questions about the nature of your god and how or why it sends souls to hell.

      • You’re welcome for what is perceived as a win. I consider it a total loss. We made no ground. And that has bothered me all night as I drove.

I pondered why you, and people of your mind, would be so far removed from where I am that there is no common ground but the skin we wear. And I am perplexed for an answer. I knew what you know. And thought that was sufficient. Now I know what I do and can’t, for the life of me, find a way to open a civil conversation with you about it. I mean that. Where you stand, there is a door closed between us.

You might think I hate you enough to be rude. Regardless what you think of me, that is absolutely not the case. I am so completely frustrated by men of your belief that I throw up my hands anymore. There is apparently absolutely no common ground for discussion. That is why I have determined not to engage athiests any more. It is not profitable for either of us.

I want you to believe you have won. At least in that, there is some profit.
