Obedience

Jordan is a brick layer.  He has been assigned to a certain portion of a great building.  Last week he was told to lay a 60 yard stretch 40 ft tall.  The foreman left him to his work and went to give orders to others.

Today is Monday.  Jordan had been hard at work for a week now.  The foreman came back to that place where Jordan was working and fired him on the spot.  Jordan grabbed his tools and headed off the site.  Looking back at his work, Jordan knew why he had been fired.  Though his work was perfectly done it didn’t match his orders.  Every four feet Jordan had built a window frame into the wall.  Beautiful arched window frames couldn’t keep Jordan on the job.  And his work was about to be torn down.

Obedience retains the good craftsman.  Rebellion fills the soup line.

  1. I think I understand what you’re tyring to say here but you know me, always the Devil’s advocate…

What if no one rebelled ever? We would still be thinking the world is flat and the earth is the centre of the universe, dispite all evidence to the contrary…

Rebellion in a traditional hierachy my lead to the bread line but it also leads to innovation and progress. I feel sorry for the foreman in this story, he will close up the windows (to match his closed mind) and never again see the light. How sad is that?

    • slightly out of character for you Lauren. That’s thinkin way out of the box. I’m impressed. I had in mind the work of the Lord and the foundation that is a must. But your point raises a great quandary among men.

How many wars were started by a peasant rebelling in the market place? Perhaps he insisted on fresh cabbage (a bit of a King’s appetite). Or perhaps a woman refused to get drunk, thus making a warrior angry the night before a battle that was about to be a draw. Hmmmmmm….. curious huh.
