Yeah but, what about what’s up?

I was waxing the car and my little dog was standing near me.  I heard some geese approaching.  I told her to look for the bird.  She got busy lookin.  Problem is, she kept looking straight ahead.  She never did see the geese.

Later, as I was driving, the incident helped me in a rather startling way, to understand something from an entirely different perspective.  She help me understand salvation from a dog’s perspective.

The sea is not teeming with animals.  Neither is the sky.  The teeming happens on the ground.  I have heard there are plenty of times you could be underwater and never see a fish.  And more times than not,  I can look up at the sky and not see a bird.  But the bugs and germs and animals and humans and birds and snakes……..  It just goes on and on, on the ground.

There are evil man who never touch the ground, in a manner of speaking.  They do they’re evil deeds out of the sight of men.  They are more of the demonic than human.

The majority of men however live their life in full sight of one another.    These folks just strive to survive.  They are neither overtly wicked nor coveting holiness.  These are the type that if you told them to look for God they would not look up.  They would look for a miracle.

But like the birds, there are a few who inhabit heaven. The majority of these men get their subsistence from the earth but they are not bound to it.  Their natural habitat is the sky.  They do not own the neck of a dog.  To look up and to go up is more natural for them then to remain on the earth.

As for hope for the others: the Lord Himself has made these people who inhabit the sky. And he is quite able to transform any who ask.  Finally, let us remember that there are such things as flying fish and flying squirrels ( not to mention bats and such.)

Let God Work!

We want the Lord to work in our lives and through us.  So why do we complain that things aren’t going as we think they should?  Rest in your faith.  Grow in your faith.  Allow God to work and do not consider that you know what should happen.  Does a ball complain that it isn’t rolling downhill fast enough?  Doesn’t gravity control it’s decent?  Does a bird complain that it doesn’t have enough feathers to fly higher?  Should we complain that our mouth isn’t large enough to consume the meals set before us?  Isn’t it foolish to say, “My feet can’t be used like my hands are.  And my hands aren’t able to support my body like my feet can.”

God has set His will in motion from ages past.  We are not the ones who direct Him.  It is the other way around.  Who knows better what is true, God or man?  So let us set aside all desires for manipulating the Lord God Most High.  Let us, instead, practise accepting what is upon us.  Let God be God.  And let us be His people.  It should be enough that He has had mercy on us.

By His Grace.

Of Geese and Drunks

A domestic goose displaying aggressively.

Doing my paper work this morning after getting the trailer loaded, my work was interrupted by the honking of geese.  6 of them sat on top the building.  2 of them seemed to think I was a possible threat.  Fine, what do geese know about humans anyway?  I gave them a few moments of study and went back to my work.

A few minutes later they saw more geese coming in to land on the building.  Honking and dancing their heads around, they welcomed the fellow poopers.  With all the noise they made, I gave them a bit more study.  There was one goose who was making the most noise.  While I watched that one, I came to the conclusion that it was a he.  His “wife” stood next to him.  She just watched him make a fool out of himself.  And it reminded me of the way young men act in a crowd of drunks.  So very macho!  So very loud and embarrassing.

Now you have to know this:  She didn’t seem to notice that he was being “too loud”.  She was even imitating his head bobs.  He pecked at her a bit.  And she gladly lowered her head and took it.  He would scratch and so would she.  What a wife for a foolish goose.

Sadly, there are many men like him.  Sadly, there are many wives like her.  When we say that a man is acting like an animal, the geese show what we mean.

Bird Chase

A bird chases another by flying behind, just below and at a slight distance.  It remains in this position so that it can follow with the hope that its enemy will make a mistake.  And it flys below so that it can remain out of sight of the other bird.

So it is with satan.  He travels behind us in our blind spot.  He is waiting for us to forget that he is there.  He’s waiting for us to relax our grip on truth.  And when we do, the second stage of his work begins.

By His grace.
