Choice

You think it´s a choice to love God or not;

As if buying shoes for your cute little tots.

That’s a choice.

Should the fly choose the horse, or the pile in the pasture?

The pile will not squat, that’s the end of the matter.

Thats a choice.

Perhaps one would bite on a sweet candy apple.

Or swallow a bullet, his pea brain to rattle.

That’s a choice.

But you love to breathe His provision of air.

How could you possibly come to not care?

Where’s the choice?

And you love your body; you can feel, and that’s cool!

So how can you hate him?  You weren’t born a fool.

Where’s the choice?

No Choice?

We go to the store to buy something.  When we get there, there is an amazing variety of choices for each product.  We get up in the morning and encounter choices.  We want to explain something and we have thousands of words to choose from.  In everything we encounter here, there are billions of choices.  We get accustomed to making choices.  And we begin to believe that everything has a choice to make.

But in the way of eternal life there is no choice.  You either have life or you don’t.  You either have Jesus’ blessing or you don’t.  There are many choices we can make as we work out our salvation.  But God is truth.  There is very little room for choice when it comes to truth.

There are variety of items in creation.  But there is One God, One Savior, One Holy Spirit, One baptism, One faith, and so on.  It isn’t up to us to create choices in our salvation.  It belongs to us to limit our appetite for choice and accept the Lord’s offer.

To Ride the Dark Ride.

We face the man of darkness.
He stands before the door.
“Through this place you will enter.
Your dress of flesh: no more.”

“I don’t want to enter”, the beg is clearly made.
“I want what I dare to want”.
“Regardless”, speaks he, “You will enter here.”
We are forced to receive his black taunt.

So we go through that forbidden place.
And since we must ride the dark ride.
What shall we do for preparation’s great sake?
For from God’s Great Law we can’t hide.

Open the box, then, and let me peak in.
I’m sure that the contents astounds.
But better received is the thrust of my shame
While I’m dirt and to flesh I am bound.

By His Grace.

Walls Too High

The High Wall of Jid Ali

How many times have we reached a “wall too high”?
Then found ourselves, without explanation, “on the other side”.

And how many times, of those unexplainable moments,
Do we remember how high that wall was?

A plain stretches out before us, after a place we can’t remember.
The grass of opportunity now waving in the breeze.

We’re free to reconsider what plainly lies before us.
And we’re headed to the next “wall too high.

By His Grace.

What Are You Waiting For?

When I had walked the fullness of my ability I found I was no farther than at first.

It was not till He taught me to listen to His voice that I found my steps to move me.

We will not find salvation in the religion of our chosing.

After all, look around you, how many religions can you count?

Where shall a man turn to find the “truth”?

JESUS!  JESUS!  JESUS!

Now that I know what He had in store for me all those decades I wonder.

What was I waiting for?

By His Grace.
