Jesus; all the proof I need.

Many chide the Christian because they say, “There is no God”.  I don’t really care what you think of me and the Lord who has proven Himself to me.  Proven?  Absolutely.  Proven!  Here’s your quandary:

If you want proof that the Lord Jesus exists and is the God who made all that is, believe.  As you believe you will receive the proof that the Lord Jesus exists and is the God who made all that is.

During the night there was a loud noise.  I went downstairs to check it out.  Looked around.  Went out to sit on the porch a while and listen.  There was no sign of anything.  I went back in to see if anything had been moved.  Nothing could be found to support the noise I had heard.

People without the “proof” of God would have been on edge.  I wasn’t.  There was a great peace about me.  This is not the man I used to be.  The slightest noise would wake me and every nerve I own would have been on alert.  But there was great peace.  My looking around was more a curiosity than a search for danger.  Why?  Because the Lord Jesus has proven to me that He is the creator of all that is.  And that I belong to Him!  He is enough, within me, to cause me to live at rest no matter the circumstances.

You want proof of what I say?  Then believe.  As you believe and live according to His word, you will begin to recognize the proof I speak of.  If you continue to only chide those who say they have what they call proof, you will remain locked outside the proof you want.

Matthew 6: 24 (The God and Money Passage)

A Master Lock brand padlock.

“You cannot serve two masters”, the Lord said.  In this passage He spoke of the comparison between God and money.  But isn’t it true that it’s not money who sat and listened as He poured out this truth?  Wasn’t it people who had the ears to hear?

So the people, being the ones to whom He spoke were to consider their allegiance to God.  When you strive to have something of this world you are striving in the wrong direction.  That’s the point.  Money just happens to be the primary tool men use to grasp at what they want in this world.

We will become a slave to that which has mastered us.  Much like this pad lock bears the name of its maker.  How appropriate.  I could say that the point is, don’t be locked down by a desire for anything in this world.

Frankly, money is not the object of the passage.  God is the focus of Jesus’ words.  As it was with all His ministry, God the Father was the singular reason He appeared before us.  And God will be the focus of Jesus for eternity.  In that focus He was showing us to abandon all ties to this world and seek after His Father’s will.  If money is something the Father decides you need to have to accomplish His will, you will receive it.  But above all seek His will first!

Winter 2011

Drifted House

Those who we regard as “those in the know” say that this winter will be harsh.  The animals seem to agree.  Bugs are more plentiful this spring and summer.  And I felt a tiny bit of stiff water droplets on the porch railing this morning.  Hard winters mean tough times for everyone.

Add this tidbit of information to the political, financial, and social scenes and you will come away with a sense of foreboding for what might happen this winter.  Gold is soaring upward due to the markets in the world.  Corruption is over running righteousness in the leadership of every organization.  Islam is busy taking over countries which will allow them access to tons of munitions and political clout in the world.  Politically correct speech is demanding an end to the absolute nature of truth.  While investments are losing their value in markedly dynamic free falls, unemployment and foreclosures are continuing to rise.

This winter poses a serious threat to far more people and families than I’ve ever seen in my life.  Wouldn’t this be the correct time to seek the Lord Jesus?  Wouldn’t it be a great time, this fall, to slam your body to your knees and ask for salvation?  No one boards up a window after the hurricane passes through, in the hopes of keeping the blasting wind out.  Well, not the wise anyway.  Today would be a really great time to seek Jesus.

Serving the Master

A brick wall

The great difficulty in Christianity is not performing up to the Master’s expectations; that is, to live the Law of God.  The greatest problem we find is humbling ourselves enough to ask for His power to overcome.  The real and immense barrier to being a productive Christian is pride.

Creation to Now and Beyond

Creation to Now and Beyond.

Millions have questioned the statements regarding the time it took God to create the universe and the earth.  They suppose that God is limited to our time and resources.  He made the stars.  He made the earth.  He made the sun and moon.  He made the water, clouds, and land.  And He made all the plants, animals, and even man.  He has done this and He did it according to His powerful hand.

Shall you continue to speak of God as though He were limited as we?  Do you know or remember the story we are told of how Jesus calmed the storm?  He spoke to the sea and the wind and immediately there was calm.  He did not let the storm die down while he held on frantically to His people in the boat.  He did not allow the little boat to float in the air while the sea tossed.  And He did not create a bubble of protection around the boat from the wind.  He spoke to the wind and seas and they simply stopped their thrashing about.

The clouds were not permitted to float on in their course as is the nature of things.  And the waves were not allowed to slowly cease their tossing.  When He spoke they simply obeyed.  Shouldn’t this tell us something about the Lord’s power?

And why did He provide the proof of His Majesty like this?  Was it so those men wouldn’t die?   No!  He is the Lord of Life.  What is it to Him if men die?  They come to Him.  And did we forget that He raises the dead any time He desires?  He did this to prove to them that the Father of all life was within Him, testifying to the Glory that is Jesus.

What do you say concerning Jesus?  What do you say concerning righteousness, holiness, and sin and death?  He was.  He is.  And He will come.  There is life in your hands right now.  And He is demanding that you accept this word of truth:

He has made you that you might worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.  He has provided proof of His Glory all about you.  His demand will remain upon you all the days you live here.  And the demand will be sealed at the moment of your death.  Jesus has come to testify regarding the Father’s will for man.  And this testimony was supported by various signs and wonders, which came from the Father of Life.  For those who believe, Jesus is God.  And He is God regardless of your willingness to believe.

So why focus on the things unknown or debatable?  Why not focus on what is currently both in your hand to do and that which is demanded of you?

May You bless these words Father.  In the name and power of Your Holy Son Jesus, Your Christ.  Amen.

Americans are consumed with today.  And rightfully so.  It was a horrible loss of life for the sake of a false god.  Two things come to mind regarding America’s mourning for September 11, 2001:

God saw it all and has those souls placed in their proper place for eternity.

And there is no date on the calendar void of remembrance of horror.  All countries have their horror.  And there is a great more suffering yet to come.

Though most will consider this day with a somber mind, will they turn to the One who places souls where they belong for eternity?  Will you allow the death of American citizens to provoke your understanding of eternity and the judgment to come?

Perhaps you think it crass of me to use this horrible day as an oportunity to speak about the Judgment to come.  Everyone who dies, dies as they are at that moment.  How many of those souls are wishing they could speak to you about where they are?  They were doing what you are doing now.  When it comes your turn will you wish you had listened?  And wouldn’t you want to tell others where you then find yourself?

Death is absolutely necessary for every man, woman and child.  Don’t you find it interesting that we’re not allowed to speak of anything but consoling words when it is encountered?  Isn’t this the first place where the Gospel is challenged?  Challenged in that those who die, know without a doubt, that it is true.  And challenged by those who remain because it speaks of a greater horror than the death of flesh.
