Respite not Despite

I have a dear friend who has gone on a cruise today.  She gets tan while I get cold.  But I am very happy for her.

She carries a lot of weight on her shoulders, in her normal routine.  There seems to be no respite from the burden.  But she carries on despite the great troubles.

But when she is offered this few days of respite from the war, she comes back an entirely different person.

In Christ, when we are offered forgiveness, is it sure, and given by the one who is able to give.  He gives this forgiveness of sins for the sake of comfort and increased faith.

Before it comes (This powerful expression of his love) we hold to our faith, but we are in the midst of a war.  When it comes there is joy.

But here the forgiveness of sins is like the cruise to my friend.  If she went on the cruise and did not enjoy herself, rather worried about the time when she returns, her respite from trouble would be worthless.

Is the forgiveness of Christ worthless in our trouble?

It is meant to build us up and to give us health and joy.  But many, including myself, have reserved their joy for heaven.  They have carried on serving Christ Jesus despite their gloom.  This is not the intent of our Lord.

When you get a warm day in winter, rejoice.  When you get a cool day in summer, likewise rejoice.  When forgiveness comes, with power, rejoice!

Among men it is truly better to give than to receive.  Before Christ we are the receivers only.  Humility breeds joy.

Words

Too many words does not a message endear.

Shortness of letters will bring the eye near.

Write them with sugar and the ants have their fill.

Speak of what’s holy and you coat them with dill.

Hope!

In your struggle against that sin of addiction, you wake to understand.

Though there was a time when you could not resist; that time “was”.

Look at the guilt you own now.  Notice how you realize that you have become free to choose.

The addiction is gone, while habit remains.

The Lord of life has heard your cries.  He has watched you flail about as you tried to put on righteousness.

And you know something you had only heard of before.  “If He has been merciful to release you from that, He is trustworthy to cause you to stand on that day”.

You are covered with stench but He cares to touch you.

You will find that covering yourself with faith becomes easier now.

All the while, He has been and will be your gloriously white garment forever.

Struggle.  Go ahead, it is necessary, it is appropriate, it is useful before the eyes of God.

Only take note that the work you could never do is being done.  He cares.  He is willing.  He is able.  His righteousness is that big.  And He does not lie.

By His Grace.

Hell is where the cool people are.

Do you know someone who has said they aren’t concerned about hell cause all their friends are there?  Well, perhaps they’re right.   But what they don’t  consider is the following.

There are a lot of things in hell.  And there are a whole lot of things that aren’t there.  Identity is not there.  You have no name and no one cares.  No tomorrows, only regrets for what you did or failed to do in your yesterdays.

Nothing to divert your attention from your failings.  No sky.  No ground.   No sleep.  No gadgets to help you pass the time.

You will remember that you are guilty of sin.  That memory will be with you without relief forever.  You will consider your everlasting fear and desire that your loved ones don’t share the same fate.  But you will be utterly helpless to help them.  And the simple pain of your self purchased torment will never leave.

What freedoms you have now, from activity to hope, will no longer exist.  Yea your friends might be there.  But neither you or they will find the slightest solace in that fact.

Turn away from folly and pride.  What good will they do you in hell?  Humble yourself before God.  As it say, “Humble yourself before the Lord and He will lift you up.”  Or not.  The choice belongs to you.

Please share this.  Perhaps one or two will read it and come to an understanding.

Addictions

Some addictions are absolutely deadly. Some will steal your reputation and your future. Some addictions have no apparent effect on you but they absolutely and utterly destroy everyone who knows you.

But not every addiction is harmful. Apparently I’m addicted to breathing. At least once a day I’m addicted to sleep. Take either one of those away and I will suffer withdrawal symptoms.

There is an addiction that I have found that has no ill effects whatsoever. It cannot be taken away therefore there is no withdrawal symptom.

I am addicted to the gospel. I think about it all day long and into the night.  In the morning I look at my dreams to see where the gospel has been talking to me. I love to write on this blog about the Lord I am learning  to love.

The most beautiful thing about this addiction is that its source is not from this world so no one can interfere. And though it may not be legal in some places in this world it is fully acceptable before the Most High God. What a wonderful thing to realize it’s okay to be addicted to a certain joy.

Thank you Lord Jesus!

Supper

Supper (Photo credit: psd)

You are invited to come to my door.  You need not knock.  For the door has been waiting for your approach.  I have stood watch for you all the day and as my strength would allow during the night.  And if I heard a noise during my sleep, as I slept at the very threshold of my door, I listened all the harder for your approach.

There is a meal prepared for you here.  The Lord encourages me to maintain a beautiful bounty for such as you.  I know what you seek.  I know your hunger, as it is my own also.

Take note that you knew the different scents of what is prepared long before your nostrils encountered the in the gentle breeze.  The scents of what is prepared is so foreign to this world.

Prepared is a bowl of forgiveness.  I will refresh your portion any time you ask for more.

I have been instructed to provide you the bread of life, lathered with the ointment of mercy.

The cup contains suffering.  But it is not bitter, as you may suspect.  Though it stings the lips, appears at first bitter to the tongue, you will find the contents utterly satisfying.

I have been instructed that your cup will never empty as long as you remain at the table.

The main plate you will find heavy, ornamented lavishly, and warm to the touch.  Upon it, when it is delivered to you, you will find delicacies beyond anything you have ever hear of.  Mercy will be delivered to your sitting.  And you will be encouraged to consume them endlessly.

Welcome, my friend.  Enter and consume the bounty of the Lord.

By His Grace.
