As You Wish

storm cell #9

Someone who calls themselves an athiest has posted the following: “Yes it is possible there is some god like being out there but it would be so far from our ability to understand that it would be a waste of time trying to. ” (I have been blocked from making any further comments on their blog. So I won’t give credit to the author of this quote)

I find this interesting for one reason. This person makes the admition that there is a possibility for the existance of God. But considers chasing after this thread of possibility a waste of time. Fine.  Is it appropriate to dismiss any possible hope simply because we can’t have it all?  And has that author considered the meaning of the word Grace?

It’s much like saying, “I don’t know how to build a house.  So I’ll just live out here on the grass.”  We are warned that a simplistic approach to God is unwise.  Wouldn’t it be better to at least apply the same primary truths to our search for God that we apply to our own physical world?   But his (I assume it’s a he) approach is to dismiss the entire thing.  It is a choice one can make.  But I can’t possibly agree that it’s the best approach to God.

If we consider the worst case sinario of man’s descriptions regarding God and what His demands are, we are put to a serious task of bending our lives toward His nature so as to avoid any possible eternity in hell. Now, don’t we do that with storm warnings? We hear it on the radio or TV. We look out our window and see no sign of the warned storm. Should we just ignore the warning? No one will ignore it. They will make choices in regard to the warning.  And in the above quote I suppose we can surmise that this person has made a choice.

But look at this person’s comment. This one decides that chasing after further knowledge is a useless cause. Ok.  Then, when it comes to teaching anything at all, this person must accept a “no response” from those who read his posts.  After all, isn’t that what he is doing with any possible knowledge of God?  Fine. Another quote comes to mind, “As you wish”.

A Prayer of Longing

There are times when we simply can’t see the value of our service to the Lord.  The sadness this short sightedness provokes should never be compared to any sadness common to every man.  It is a sadness the Lord felt as He walked this Place of Testing.  And perhaps, longing, is a better description.  But the longing for one who is deeply loved.  This longing has provoked the following prayer.  May God bless His words inspired by His Beauty.

Lord Jesus, I want to come home.  I know there is work to be done.  Work for Your Glory needs to be accomplished.  You need to work in me.   And I need to work in the world for the sake of Your Holy Name and the souls of the blind.  But I want to come home.

I used to belong here, basking in the darkness.  I used to hate you and my only desire was to be left to my own pleasures.  But You’ve entered and changed all that.  Oh, how happy You make Your people!  How beautiful are the words of what the world calls “doom and gloom”.  You have not given man words to speak of the joys You instill in Your people.  But I want to come home.

I am at a loss as to what to say or do for any one of these who don’t know You.  I speak Your beautiful words.  But they can’t hear.  I show them the hatred for sin You have birthed in my soul.  And they think I am simply an angry man.  Your ways are to be desired above everything in this world, and they ARE.  You have touched my heart with an unspeakable peace and joy.  How deep is the yearning for Your Holy ways!  I have lips, but words fail me.  I want to come home.

But I will stay and love you as from afar.  The sparkle of this world is dimmed to darkness.  The desire to gain what they gain is lost.  And there is no regret at this loss.  You have caused this foolish man to desire what is best.  And all I own is to Your Glory.  I am nothing without You!  And this nothingness causes a vast craving for Your Love.  It is our lot to serve you in this Place of Testing.  And I gladly accept this rule from Your Beautiful hand.  But I want to come home.

You Know a Secret.

You look at me and mock, as though you know a secret.

I am the body of Christ.

You frolic and dance in your festival of sin.

You are the world.

We are all made of flesh, yet a difference remains.

Your mocking is futile and you waste your limited time.

Your eyes are set on what can be seen.

And there is no understanding in your mind.

Yet you mock with limitless hatred for the Holiness of God.

I look at you and wonder how it is you are so blind.

Everything pure and Holy is hidden from your mind.

I look for pity from the depths of my soul.

And I am surprised to find calm and patience where the bag of pity was always kept.

I am not my own.

I have been bought with a price.

And you are not your own.

You are sold as a slave to sin.

I would tell you to look at your plight.

But you cannot see.

O’ Lord of Mercy, we ask your help.

That we might show them their need.

The Lord Has Done This!

The Lord!  The Lord has done this!

My soul is at home while my body sucks dust.

Where your treasure is, so your heart will be also.

I am a citizen of heaven proclaiming the unseen.

Considered a fool among men, my lips stammer His Glory.

I have seen with my blindness a promise of He who cannot lie.

And my hands reach out frantically to touch the feet of The Righteous One!

No longer do I belong to this world of foolishness and sin.

I am His!

The Lord!  The Lord has done this!

“Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you.”  So it is promised by The Lord of Truth and Life.  So it is, and forever will be, true.  Does that mean we should never speak the truth to those who mock the Lord’s ways?  No.  It simply states that you will be hated for speaking what is true.

To rebuke those who hate God and deny His Lordship is much like speaking to a brick wall saying, “You are in my way.  Move aside.”  The bricks will give you the same regard as those who hate God’s ways.  I encourage Christians to stand and speak against foolishness spoken by those who are blind.  It is possible that the Lord will open their eyes some day.  And when that happens, they will remember your words and be ashamed.

Jesus is the redeemer of hearts and souls.  For now they stand before Him as a snake in it’s hole; neither lovable nor promising.  But I once stood as such also.  And now I do see and understand the Honor of God.  He is Holy.  They, for now, are unholy and godless.  Continue to hold out the words of life without shame or fear.  This is how the Lord walked among us.  And isn’t it our privilege to walk in the same world God was crucified in?

Cowards and the trembling are not useful in the redemption of souls.  It is those who will stand without shame who will allow the Lord to venture into the hearts of the ungodly.  They will remember your words come that day of God’s appearing.  So stand without fear.  Speak with the power given the people of God.  And do not fear their hatred.  They already hate you because you are His.  Is it that you fear the appearance of their hatred and mocking?  They have no fear or shame before the Most High God now.  But the day will come when they will hate their own lips.

Speak and act as those who are not a part of this world’s hatred of God.  “Fearlessness is a definite sign of your victory.”  (http://www.sermoncentral.com/sermons/walking-in-a-fearless-life-style-jeff-budzinski-sermon-on-bible-influence-103382.asp)  So be filled with the courage of your hope.  And do not allow shame to cover the work of the Holy Spirit within you.  Stand and speak with full assurance that the words of truth hold the power you have professed.  The world will mock you.  The world will hate you.  Why is that something to be afraid of?  Isn’t that what was promised by the Lord Jesus?  “All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. (Mark 13:13)

The Noise Not Heard.

Animated noise

Image via Wikipedia

Only sounds close reach my flesh.

The older I get the closer they must be.

Yet there is noise upon noise.

The older I get the less I hear

Of the noise the world affords an ear.

It’s the voice of God I seek.

And no ear will serve me well.

Rattle and prattle your wicked noise of hatred.

The din will rouse no saint.

There is a noise of always which rings with joy.

And no clanging will drown it out.

Speak, my Lord, I listen with heart.

Your ways and Your words are so welcome.

Turn back the rustle and bustle.

Let the voice of God stir my soul.
